Paint Correction & Gloss Restoration

Understanding Modern Vehicle Paint

What is Paint Correction?

Paint correction is the process of safely refining the paintwork to reduce swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, and other surface defects while restoring gloss and clarity.

Most paint defects are caused by improper washing techniques, automated brush washes, and environmental contamination.

Examples include:

Swirl marks • Light scratches • Water spot etching Oxidation • Polishing marks • Using public car washes

Even new cars often arrive with these defects.

Common Paint Imperfections

Vehicle paint is made up of multiple layers

Safety & Paint Depth Measurement

This is where we use a paint thickness gauge. Before polishing begins, paint thickness is measured with a digital paint depth gauge. This allows us to determine:

  • How much clear coat is available

  • Which polishing method is safe

  • the correct level of correction

Measuring paint depth helps ensure the paintwork is refined safely, preserving the long-term integrity of the finish.
